Cannby Throws Two Touchdowns as Dallas Beats Seattle
Isaac Cannby threw two touchdown passes, the last a 10-yard strike to Oneil Seoro with 1:52 left, and the Dallas Dragons beat the Seattle Punks 23-13. The result left Dallas at 3-5 and Seattle at 3-3-1, and it was Dallas's fourth-quarter scoring that made the margin.
The game turned at 7:37 of the first quarter, when Cannby found Eric Merkrick for a 10-yard touchdown that put Dallas ahead 7-0. Dallas never trailed after that. It led at the end of every quarter and held its largest lead, 10 points, at 12:34 of the second quarter.
Wade Gundridge kicked a 20-yard field goal to make it 10-0 in the second quarter. Kenta Kyan answered with a 20-yard field goal at 3:54, and Gundridge made it 13-3 with a 56-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Noah Steamore's 2-yard touchdown run at 4:32 of the third cut the deficit to 13-10.
Two Seattle turnovers in the second quarter changed nothing on the scoreboard. Andrew Teater recovered a fumble for Seattle at 2:48, and Isaac Whoodale intercepted Alejandro Gienales at 1:48, but neither produced points before halftime. Gundridge's 51-yard field goal at 14:09 of the fourth quarter pushed Dallas to 16-10, and Kyan's 51-yard kick at 9:29 made it 16-13. Cannby's touchdown to Seoro finished the scoring.
Cannby completed 21 of 34 passes for 186 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Merkrick ran 15 times for 85 yards and caught four passes for 35 yards and a score. Dallas finished with 300 total yards and converted seven of 16 third downs.
Gienales completed 21 of 32 passes for 170 yards with one interception for Seattle. Troy Wiwood carried 14 times for 84 yards, and Steamore caught five passes for 72. Teater led all players with seven tackles and two sacks, and Pieter Schijberg had six tackles and a sack for Dallas.
Dallas lost cornerback Luke Grackridge to a hamstring strain, and he is out two weeks. Cornerback Riley Peley was listed as questionable after a concussion evaluation, and cornerback Jared Cruller (shoulder), defensive tackle Gavin Rumore (concussion evaluation) and safety Mack Shooler (knee) were also questionable and did not return. Seattle cornerback Cristian Poano was questionable with a knee injury and did not return.
