Carson Jockworth Throws Two Touchdowns as Los Angeles Edges Nashville
Carson Jockworth threw two touchdown passes, the second a 29-yard strike to Mason Rird in the third quarter, and Los Angeles Seabees beat Nashville Hounds 14-12. The win moved Los Angeles to 2-6, the same record Nashville finished with after Zach Leatrick's four field goals kept the Hounds within two points in the fourth quarter.
The first turning point came at 2:24 of the first quarter, when Jockworth hit Noah Saylin with a one-yard touchdown pass that gave Los Angeles a 7-0 lead. The Seabees led after every quarter and never trailed. The decisive swing came at 6:21 of the third quarter, when Jockworth found Rird for 29 yards and a 14-6 lead.
Nashville's points all came off the foot of Leatrick, who made field goals of 37, 36, 55 and 42 yards. The Hounds closed to 3-7 at 11:45 of the second quarter, then 6-7 at 9:25 of the third. Los Angeles answered with Rird's touchdown, and Leatrick's 55-yard kick at 1:09 made it 14-9. His final field goal, from 42 yards at 3:38 of the fourth quarter, cut the margin to 14-12.
Los Angeles turned the ball over twice, and neither turnover produced points. Chen Kumoto fumbled with 28 seconds left in the second quarter, and Jason Brorkford recovered. Henry Kormore intercepted Jockworth at 10:44 of the fourth quarter and returned it two yards, with the Seabees ahead 14-9.
Jockworth finished 20 of 30 for 238 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Rird caught eight passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, and Kumoto ran 18 times for 124 yards. For Nashville, Ben Dat completed 23 of 33 passes for 247 yards without a touchdown or an interception. Heath Pandson caught eight passes for 94 yards. Lane Warkrick led Los Angeles defenders with seven tackles.
Jack Dallham was hurt with a shoulder sprain at 9:33 of the third quarter, and Nelson Beraz came in for him. Beraz also left with a hamstring strain, and Jesse Diswood was out with a torn meniscus.
Both clubs finished at 2-6.
